German n-tv and Handelsblatt chose dicas

Berlin, Germany (September 29, 2008) - Handelsblatt, the leading German language business newspaper, and the German news TV channel n-tv have chosen dicas for the contribution of the news feed "Handelsblatt Ticker". The Ticker is a survey on German and international markets produced by the Handelsblatt in its Düsseldorf publishing house. The content is contributed to n-tv via RTP live streaming realised with the dicas2010SD encoder, a 1-RU encoding and streaming device delivering one SD channel MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video and MPEG-4 AAC audio.

"We chose the dicas2010 because of its brilliant picture quality at lower bit rates" says Oliver Reich, broadcasting technique engineer at n-tv. For the contribution of the Handelsblatt Ticker Reich targeted at a maximum bit rate of 2 MBps which is the maximum bandwidth of E1 trunks, the European equivalent to the American T1. The Handelsblatt Ticker is therefore realised as a traditional head-and-shoulder shot encoded by the dicas2010 SD encoder at a bit rate of 1.6 MBps. Reich: "By using E1 instead of ATM we could considerably reduce our expenses for video transmission."
